Minds Matter Philadelphia

Minds Matter connects driven and determined students from low-income families with the people, preparation and possibilities to succeed in college, create their future, and change the world. We envision a Philadelphia where family income is not a prerequisite for success in college or career and where every student has the resources to reach their full potential.

01.

The Opportunity Gap

In Philadelphia, there is roughly one counselor for every 400 students. This lack of resources creates immense barriers for high-potential students, yet talent remains universal.

02.

Navigating the Unknown

Only 8% of high-achieving, low-income students apply to appropriately challenging colleges. Without guidance, the complex path to elite higher education remains a daunting mystery.

03.

The Representation Gap

At the most competitive colleges, only 3% of students come from low-income families. Diversity of thought and background is missing from our nation’s most influential institutions.

04.

The Completion Crisis

Only 17% of low-income students graduate college in four years, compared to over 70% of affluent peers. The gap persists long after the first day of freshman year.
