Yes, your donation to Minds Matter is tax deductible. Minds Matter of Philadelphia, Inc. (Employer ID No. 45-1602619) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt subordinate organization (Group Exemption No. 4358) of Minds Matter, Inc (EIN 13-3688434).
What does it mean to be a tax-exempt subordinate organization?
As a tax-exempt subordinate organization, Minds Matter of Philadelphia shares the same common exempt purpose, to assist promising students, as Minds Matter, but is operated out of Philadelphia for the benefit of Philadelphia area students. It is affiliated with, but not controlled by, Minds Matter National. Other than sharing the same common goals as Minds Matter National and having similar minded volunteers, it is generally an autonomous organization. As such. Minds Matter of Philadelphia has its own management structure, Board of Directors, and all funds raised by it solely benefit the students of Minds Matter of Philadelphia.
By operating under Minds Matter National’s tax exemption. Minds Matter of Philadelphia is able to serve its community and area students sooner than it would if it had applied for tax-exempt status individually. Moreover it operates in a manner to best serve its community and has many unique characteristics that distinguish it from the other Minds Matter National chapters. As such. Minds Matter of Philadelphia should be treated as a local Philadelphia not-for-profit that happens to be affiliated with a national tax-exempt organization.
